|
|
I have a plant video by Jim Meuninck a well know medicinal plant guru. In the video he states that you can take cedar or juniper branches and lay them around your sleeping area and rattlesnakes will not cross them. Is this due to thier odor? I know that cedar and juniper repel insects because of thier chemical makeup, but snakes? This one seems kind of iffy to me. Does anyone have any experience or have heard anything regarding this? Now all I gotta do is find a rattler and surround him with juniper branches and see if he'll cross!

i have never tried it myself. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I have found rattlers under juniper trees so that makes me lean toward the no end of the question. I would still have to try it. _________________ Always a Student, Never a Master. |

I agree w/john I have found that snakes only differentiate smells for food or tracking food other than that I haven't found any odoriferous material that would repel them but, it may be true. Someone has got to try this to be sure!! _________________ "Respect is the one thing money can't buy, it takes a long time to earn, but can be lost in the blink of an eye" |

could be something to do with snakes following barriers due to poor eyesight. Like the way that mice run along the joints of the wall and the floor. Perhaps having a boundary around your camp encourages the snake to go along that boundary and away rather than over.
I've heard of people using rope around their sleeping spot to the same effect. |
