I am thinking of selling pre-made tinder tins. Basically it will be a chew can, cleaned up (no paper or lettering), filled with vaseline impregnated cottonballs. I was thinking of selling them for $5. Do you guys think this is a good idea, is the price too high or too low? Any input would be greatly appreciated!! I will post a pic of the finished product tomorrow!!
Thank you,

I have a snuff can (one of your's lol) that I put those into. I even sealed it up with electrical tape around the outside. What I would do if you are really going to try this is figure out what everything cost you. Break it down as far as how much per item, then add a buck or two for your profit. Heck you can even make a couple of extra bucks with handling fees. But most important find out if there is a market for it. Google the crap out of it and see if anyone else is doing it and for how much. If you find nothing on it, you can be the first to give it shot. _________________ Always a Student, Never a Master. |

Right on, I am going to do that right now!! So far the biggest cost is cotton balls and vaseline, plus the 10 minutes of excrutiating labor it takes to clean up the can. . . LOL Thanks man!! _________________ "Respect is the one thing money can't buy, it takes a long time to earn, but can be lost in the blink of an eye" |

All I found was wetfire tinder, nothing on tinder tins or tinder cans!! I will send you a sample once I get one completed then you can tell me how you like it!!
Now I just need a good name, unless you think tinder tin will work? _________________ "Respect is the one thing money can't buy, it takes a long time to earn, but can be lost in the blink of an eye" |

you need a good logo and a easy name to remember. you can go to a craft store and have stamps made up pretty cheap and stamp your logo on it with paint. _________________ God made man, Sam Colt made them equal |

Jake, i think its a good idea but in my opinion most people make their own cotton ball vasoline things.
Now if you offered it as a little fire kit for people who are to lazy to figure it out for them selves it would sell but how are you going to get people like that to your site?.
If it had a little ferro rod, piece of hacksaw blade, and the cotton balls and maybe some charcloth and was in a cool littel tin or the chew can(good use of something most people throw away ) with a cool logo, it would be nice and I think sell for around $10-$12.
I think handdrill kits , bowdrill kits, and your fire kit idea would sell if you got people to your site. Your bracelets as well, belts, paracord keychains and maybe those paracord kobotons(i think thats what they are called).
but again getting the right kind of people to your site.
I just dont think it would sell to most of us because we make that stuff as well for ourselves, like the bracelets, kits etc....
not to discourage you but to encourage you to keep thinking about this stuff, it will come to you when you least expect it, just keep your mind open and let the ideas flow.
come up with something no one has ever thought of and that everyone needs, a cool gimmicky thing. something that is easy to carry and useful.
multipurpose items are very popular in this field.
something that you wear around your neck maybe.or have on your key chain. |

Good point! Like finding a way to divide the container, one side for the striker or ferro rod and the other for the tinder. Putting char cloth in as tinder would be a good idea as well. Like i said man just play around with the idea you will come up with something great I am sure. Later if you can come up with a little funds you can even get some scrap leather (remnants) and make up a good leather case for the kit. Just some other ideas that can draw attention to the product. _________________ Always a Student, Never a Master. |

I was in the woods for HOW long? You draw those and make it publically known, and I am no longer responsible for my actions!
