You gotta check out Anders Jonsson's page http://www.andersj.se/. It's chock full of well documented DIY outdoor projects.
I've been looking for a good balaclava for a long while now. I even went to the store yesterday. Nothing fit and everything was too expensive. In addition all the balaclavas I saw were unnecessarily over complicated or poorly made. I came across Ander's site while reading another forum this morning. I found that Anders has some great instructions on sewing your own balaclava. So I grabbed some of my wife's fleece, for the blankets she makes as gifts, and went to work. The first go around I stuck to the plans. It didn't quite work out for me. The second try I evened the neck line and added 3 inches inches then I narrowed the height of the eye hole by bringing up the bottom edge about 3/4 of an inch. This thing fits perfectly, and it's oh so warm. I've already marked a few other projects on his site to try out when I get material. Oh, and it's an eeeeaaasy project. You can make one even if you don't have a sewing machine, though it'll take longer.
I'm smiling
Oh yeah, his site is in Swedish. But you can have it translated to English by pressing the little British flag. One note, you'll have to leave it in the original Swedish to be able to down load or print the PDF plans for his projects. Otherwise google translator will jack up the PDF when you try to open it. |
