I have always wondered what the guidelines there are for whether a cut is severe enough for stitches. I cut the Sh*t out of my left index finger- split the nail and the slice into the tip. And yes I do feel stupid( and my wife is helping me feel even stupider!) _________________ God made man, Sam Colt made them equal |

| Personally I'd avoid stiches and use steri strips instead. Or even super glue. Outside of a sterile environment Every time you push that needle through you are inoculating yourself with all sorts of bacteria. Clean up the wound, glue it shut with superglue, or tape it shut with steri strips, then wrap it in guaze. (superglue works great, btw) |

ah yes that does make sense- super is sterile? Or do you have to get the Nu-skin stuff? _________________ God made man, Sam Colt made them equal |

Both work fine, I have personally been using super glue to seal wounds since 1993 so 16 years, never had an infection from it!! God I feel old!! _________________ "Respect is the one thing money can't buy, it takes a long time to earn, but can be lost in the blink of an eye" |

I have sewn my self up before. But I took care to properly clean everything with iodine and alcohol. I used cotton balls dowsed with alcohol to wipe down the needle and several others to clean the equipment and my hands. It is the friction caused by the rubbing that actually kills the bacteria. After I was done I boiled the forceps and tweezers. Granted in an emergency situation I strongly recommend super glue or butterfly strips (if the strips will hold) I have had several cases were they wouldn't. It was just too wet out. But same here I never once got an infection using superglue and I have had some pretty bad cuts. I personally don't recommend self suturing. You have to know exactly what you are doing.
I can however do a much better job than the Dr. lol. The two obvious times I sewed myself up you cant even see the suture marks, just a big scar is all. _________________ Always a Student, Never a Master. |
